Paid Excursions Exploring Local Natural Wonders

Lamanai

Lamanai, often translated as “submerged crocodile” is one of the largest Maya sites in Belize dating back over 3000 years. Float down the New River spotting exotic animals like howler monkeys and crocodiles, ending your journey at the ruins. Explore world-renowned sites such as the Jaguar Temple, Mask Temple, High Temple, and many others.

Float the Mayan Underworld

Voyage down the Caves Branch River and enter the “Mayan Underworld.” Float past stalactites and past underground waterfalls to the crystal cathedral – a spiritual center to the Maya and one of the largest caves in Belize. After passing through the cave series, head to the Belize Zoo featuring over 175 animals including the elusive jaguar, puma and more!

Barrier Reef Adventure

Travel by speed boat to the border of Mexico and Belize and carefully navigate a channel built by Mayan Hands to the most isolated portion of the Belize Barrier Reef. Snorkel with over 500 types of fish and 100 coral species before exploring a variety of exotic sandbars. Enjoy local and delicious Caribbean rum along the way!

Cerros Ruins

The Cerros Marine Ruins are partially underwater with temples, plazas, and canals revealed. Once home to over 1,000 Mayans, this is a secluded site comprised of 52 acres. Afterwards, visit a local Belizean hut for local craft beer, organic absinthe, and even Jamaican hibiscus wine.

Shipstern Lagoon Birding

Shipstern Lagoon, the largest inland lagoon in Belize, is a prime location for birders and animal lovers alike. Observe Toucans, Spoonbills, the Red-vented Woodpecker and more. You might even find American Woodstorks nesting on the many islands if the conditions are right. One of these islands hosts a small Black Mangrove forest, remnants of a Mayan structure, as well as beautiful epiphytes.

Barracuda Lake Fishing

Visit Barracuda Lake, home to a vast number of large barracuda and snapper. As you experience the gorgeous turquoise water in this 10 ft. deep lake, you will be among 200 varieties of orchids and a popular migratory birding destination. Anglers come try your luck at catching the great barracuda in the wild!

Rum Crawl

Satisfy your sweet tooth as you embark on a tasting journey of Caribbean rum for the connoisseur and amateur enthusiast alike. Begin your day with a welcome cocktail at Tradewinds Restaurant. You will then depart on one of Orchid Bay’s boats as you make your way toward Corozal Bay, enjoying the sunshine and calm waters along the way. Meet local characters as you stop for Belize’s finest spirits and rum tastings at several bars along the Caribbean Ocean shoreline. Here the rum never runs dry! Return to Orchid Bay in time for dinner and to enjoy the final hours of daylight.
