Orchid Bay Resort truly feels like a little slice of paradise. From the start, we were greeted by Andre, our private driver, who took us all the way to the resort. Depending on the ferry, the trip can take a little time, but they’re nearing the completion of the second bridge, which will make access to Orchid Bay quicker and easier. Andre was fantastic—he kindly stopped whenever we wanted to grab food or drinks or use the restroom. Our beach cabana was outstanding! Perfect for two people, the rooms were stunning, with a modern, North American-friendly design. We especially loved having our own screened-in patio for watching the sunset. The amenities onsite were just right. Good food, cold beer, and a refreshing beachfront pool—what more could you need? They offer paddle boards and kayaks for guests to use at no charge, and swimming in the ocean is available here. You can walk out for metres and still only be at your waist! The signs you see around are for non-guests/day visitors only. As an Orchid Bay guest, you’re treated like royalty. The food was fresh and authentic, and we even enjoyed freshly squeezed watermelon juice on our first day. You don’t have to lift a finger, they bring everything to you. David and Demaris, the owners, take care of you like their own. The staff, especially Indy, were all incredibly friendly and dedicated, with extensive knowledge of Belize and its history. The year-round owners that live there were also very welcoming, everyone smiles and waves. David put together two boat tours for us; one to the Lamanai and one to the Cerros Ruins, which were both remarkable experiences. Along the way we got to see crocodiles, baby howler monkeys, tarantulas, bats, birds, and iguanas. Our guide, Colin from Eco Tours Lamanai, was fantastic—He was able to spot us 3 CROCS!! And just about any piece of wildlife you’d almost miss if you were alone. Super funny guy. Our stay at Orchid Bay was nothing short of rejuvenating. If you’re a nature lover who enjoys seclusion, this is the perfect spot. The massive gardens and flowers across the property attract all sorts of wildlife, including many birds and butterflies. Grab a Landshark beer, dip in the pool, and enjoy a breathtaking sunset right on the beach.
